Scott graduated from Stanford with dual degrees in computer science and English. As an undergraduate he worked as a peer tutor in a wide variety of subjects including math, physics, computer science and Spanish. He also served as the student coordinator of the entire peer tutoring program at the Stanford Center for Teaching and Learning. While at Stanford, Scott spent two years donating his time tutoring children from nearby economically disadvantaged East Palo Alto in an after-school program.

After graduation, Scott then worked as a successful software engineer in Silicon Valley for nine years. He started out writing software for database subsystems. Within six months he was promoted and ended up managing teams of engineers. Scott helped design and implement complex data storage systems used by large organizations in the public and private sectors, including various arms of the federal government and prestigious financial institutions like Chase Manhattan Bank.

In 2007, Scott completed his law degree at George Mason University. He graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the Law Review. He was involved in many campus groups, doing community service, raising money for public interest law scholarships, and winning awards for trial advocacy. He worked with his fellow law students for several semesters tutoring local high school students through the Mason Scholars program. Since 2006, in addition to his work with Focused Coaching students, Scott has collaborated with a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C. to provide free SAT instruction at inner city high schools. He achieved the highest average score increases of any first-time instructor in the history of the program.
