Long Term Planning:
For students with whom we have the opportunity to work for longer than just the
application season (October-January of a student's senior year), we aid in the
planning and execution of long term projects like publishing papers and books,
operating websites, and/or winning national science and service awards. We
assist in the planning and implementation of summer internship programs that
match students' interests to significant work experience. We also plan long
term community service and volunteer activities and tutor for SAT I and II
tests. Finally, during the application process, we aid in essay and resume
writing, interview preparation, and in presentations to teachers from
whom students are requesting recommendations.
For younger students, we plan out summer curriculums so that, when they arrive
in high school, they will be a year or two ahead in science and math. This
"leg-up" allows well-prepared students to begin taking college courses via the
internet at nationally recognized universities like Stanford and MIT or through
in-person programs at Princeton and Rutgers, prior to the completion of high
school. Doing well in college level classes will allow students to stand out
in the college application process.
In short, Focused Coaching tries to make every student reach their fullest
potential and gain admission to the college of their dreams
Short Term Planning:
For students who come to Focused Coaching from the summer before their senior
year forward, we plan short term academic, extra-curricular and volunteer
projects. We revise resumes, help students focus their particular academic
interests, and express those interests in powerful, succinct college essays.
